  • High Court Deals Unions a Blow

    Neil Rubenstein, Observer Columnist|Jul 26, 2018

The obvious winners from the Supreme Court's decision in Janus v. AFSCME last month are the hundreds of thousands of teachers and other public workers who will no longer have union “agency fees” involuntarily taken from their paychecks. In the long run, however, the benefits to "Blue State" budgets may prove more consequential. Having promised public workers big pensions without saving the money to pay them, many of these states are fiscal time bombs. Nationwide, state pensions have unf...

    Sandra Coopersmith, Features Writer|Jul 12, 2018

By Sandra Coopersmith When it comes to hands-on involvement in helping the poor and homeless, Paul Ehrlich, whom I would definitely rate as one of the good guys, is no slacker. Every Saturday morning his dining room table transforms into a work station where sandwiches are made and bagged along with a bottle of water, piece of fruit and some kind of dessert for distribution to the poor and homeless he encounters along his route that day. Leftover food and any merchandise that has been donated (c...
