He retired last year as the Sports Editor of the Culver City News and as one of the city’s top real estate agents. Although he officially retired h...

At the November 9 meeting a lengthy parade of citizens spoke in public comment about these two issues. The oil field speakers came out because of an imminent EIR (Environmental Impact Report) that the city is preparing on the impacts...

The games, the centerpiece of the non-profit Team Prime Time leadership component, give students the opportunity to give back to their c...
By Mitch Chortkoff Sports Editor The reason Culver City High is suddenly close to becoming the 2015 Ocean League football champion is that Lawndale High has forfeited four victories, including league wins over Culver City and Santa Monica. Coupled with Culver’s victory over Hawthorne last Friday the Centaurs prevail in tiebreakers. With a win over Beverly Hills this Friday Culver would become the champion and most likely would receive a first round playoff home game. The South Bay Daily B...

Throughout this school board campaign one of the primary questions about Kelly Kent is Who is she? and What is her experience working with our Culver City schools? These are questions I am uniquely positioned to answer, and I believe that my perspective may be of benefit to the electorate, who are being asked to select candidates in our upcoming local election. For well over a year I have worked with Kelly day in and day out to jointly create the new Spanish language program at Lin Howe. From a...

By Fred Altieri Sports Reporter The Culver City High football team dominated archrival Santa Monica High, 49-0, on Friday, October 23 as the Centaurs rallied around their new starting quarterback. The Centaurs spoiled the Vikings' homecoming game played at Santa Monica College on another warm autumn evening. Santa Monica, usually a strong opponent, has an 0-8 record this season. "It was a team effort. It was great to get a shutout. To give up zero points while scoring 49 is a great...
By Lynne Bronstein Observer Reporter The second Culver City School Board's candidates' forum on October 14 had quite a different tone from the first one. It seemed a lot simpler to understand and much friendlier than most candidates' forums. Maybe that was because the questions lobbed at the candidates came from the stakeholders with the biggest concerns about school conditions-the students. The forum, held at West L.A. College's Fine Arts Auditorium, was produced by "Ask 2 Know," a program...

By Fred Altieri Sports Reporter "We left the game with a positive feeling about our team and how far we've come in a short amount of time," said Jahmal Wright, Culver City High head football coach. The Centaurs drove up the coast on Friday, October 2, to Port Hueneme to completely overwhelm Channel Islands High 54-30 with speed, line strength, big-play offense and another stellar defensive night from Mekhi Ware and company. Wright continued: "It was a long road trip and our goal was to go up...
By Neil Rubenstein Observer Columnist I am voting for Kelly Kent for Culver City Unified School District Board of Education on November 3. If you want the best choice, please join me with your friends and neighbors and vote for Kelly Kent. Just a reminder, the 10th Annual Taste of Soul Family...
Last spring CCEF helped the Culver City High School Green Thumbs Club obtain a grant for $5,500 from the Richard B. Seigal Foundation. The grant made it possible for the Green Thumbs to put an automated drip watering system into their garden so that it's watered efficiently even when school is not in session. The grant also enabled them to install a new fence, which the students are staining themselves and new raised-bed garden boxes. The old boxes have been turned into tables and benches by...
