So what happened to the $20 bill? Just how long does it take to remove President Jackson and put in Harriet Tubman? I believe the Central Valley’s bullet train just shot its backers in their feet. It’s amazing the Board of Supervisors is considering a parcel tax to help the homeless. Culver City already has a parcel tax for the Julian Dixon County Library and I’m darn sure there are one or two more that I just don’t remember. Saint Vincent operates the world’s largest thrift store. It’s 54,0...
Dear Editor, Do you want to preserve democracy in Culver City? If so, please go to the end of a very long ballot on Tuesday, November 8 (or when you receive your vote-by-mail ballot), and vote NO on Measure CA. If Measure CA passes it would take away the power to hire, supervise and fire the Police and Fire Chiefs from our elected City Council and give this power to a single person we did not elect—the City Manager. For almost 70 years our City Council has been in charge of our Police and Fire C...
Kim Nguyen is running for Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Office 158. Kim placed first in the June primary election, and is now facing off against the second place finisher. Currently, Kim is a Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice. During her more than 16-year legal career Kim has handled complex civil matters in the state and federal courts and argued before the California Supreme Court. Theodorsia and I are proud to support her for her ability, experience,...
Culver City Community Coalition has launched the NO on Measure CA Campaign to defeat one of four local measures that will appear on the November ballot. The election will be held Tuesday, November 8. Vote by mail ballots have already been received. Measure CA would remove the City Council’s responsibility for hiring, overseeing and conceivably firing the police chief and the fire chief. These powers would be transferred to the unelected city manager. “Measure CA is undemocratic,” stated Karlo Silbiger, former president of the Culver City Schoo...

I just wonder what Mayor Clarke and Culver City are planning for Kirk Douglas’s 100th birthday this fall. I thought the September/October 2016 issue of The Saturday Evening Post was particularly interesting. Many foods contain chemicals similar to prescription drugs and can improve health. A delicious case in point is a semi-fat hard cheese made in Italy that research shows can lower blood pressure akin to the popular drug ENALAPRIL. According to a study published in the April issue of the J...
All of us have heard on the radio or seen on television or read in the newspaper about law enforcement agencies doing bad things to good people. How many instances have there been when police and/or the court and/or the laboratory did something so evil that an innocent person spent as much as 10 or 15 or even 20 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit? Not here in Culver City!!! Personally, I would rather not have more efficiency in the police department if it meant punishing those who...
In November vote for our firefighters, our paramedics and our police and against the power-grabbing politicians who just want their $250,000 salaries and $200,000 pensions. It seems as though in every area of the human experience ladies are making headway. More and more jobs are becoming available and the salary gap is narrowing. Why, even the U.S. Navy SEALS will have females next year. So why is it that in the Culver City fire house in the past 100 years no progress has been made? That’s r...

An early morning crash on Wednesday between an MTA Bus and a dump truck at the Jefferson Boulevard off ramp on the 405 freeway initiated a major response from Culver City Police and Fire along with surrounding agencies. The accident took place at 5:30 am when the truck was exiting the freeway ramp and the bus was traveling eastbound on Jefferson. According to Culver city Battalion Chief Jeremy Debie paramedics treated seven passengers and transported four people on the bus to a local hospital....
Is it possible? Is it possible? Could the moaning and knees shaking noises coming from the City Hall be from the very nervous and worried pencil sharpeners group members? It’s pure speculation at this time, but the rumors are saying, “Why would Martin Cole leave a job paying approximately $275, 000 (wages and benefits) unless someone or something made Mr. Cole extremely upset? Don’t forget, some just might be having sleepless nights afraid of Cole spilling the beans on a few projects from the r...

This event was free and open to the public. Please visit http...
I have mentioned this several times before, so to many it will be no surprise. In the room I use as my office I have five-drawer filing cabinets. a two-drawer filing cabinet, plus numerous boxes so full of Culver City happenings and info about the movers and shakers that I cannot even add a piece of scratch paper. To protect all this, I could say we have four fire extinguishers, a 50-foot hose and a 6-foot ladder, but we mainly rely on 911 and a secret City Hall extension ending in 9....
The 13th Annual Culver City Car Show was a rousing success despite two major changes. First, the passing of Car Legend George Barris "The King of Kustomizers" who was a perennial figure at the show named after him. Second, the weather, each year the visitors are subject to the hottest day in spring. This year however the organizers were concerned about a rainout. The clouds gathered and dumped rain on other parts of the Southland but the show was spared with little more than a morning drizzle...
Culver City residents have long been familiar with Goran Eriksson, who frequently speaks at City Council and other civic meetings and chaired the Culver City Chamber of Commerce in 2012. Eriksson has a business background as president and founder of esi Techtrans, Inc., an international business development consultancy founded in 1987. He serves as chair of the Culver City Finance Committee, and in that capacity, encouraged the City Council to increase community involvement in the city budget...
As we approach Election Day, April 12th, we have reviewed our choices for the three city council positions up for grabs. Theodorsia and I, like many of our friends and neighbors, plan to vote for Meghan Sahli-Wells and Marcus Tiggs. She likes Daniel Lee and I’m for Thomas Small. I am certain after one reads the candidates’ statements in the voter’s handbook the decision on where to “X” the ballot will be a snap. I am nominating Meghan for “The L.A. Woman” as noted in the April 2016 issue of...
With less than three weeks before the election April 12, Culver City Police Officers Association has joined Culver City Firefighters Association, Employees Association, and a growing roster of notable individuals and organizations in their enthusiastic praise for Meghan Sahli-Wells’ leadership, and their support for her re-election to the Culver City Council. Culver City Police, Firefighters, and Employees Associations and their representatives are among the many local and state leaders and organizations endorsing Sahli-Wells, including C...

There shouldn’t be a question in anyone’s mind that for all the right reasons I feel Marcus Tiggs can bring a new common sense approach to our City Council. Transparency in local government needs to make a comeback. Another breath of fresh air is Meghan Sahli-Wells, who has countless new ideas to move the city along. We need strong women who can take charge and make improvements as necessary. It has been 65 years since Earl Lloyd became the first African American to play in the National Bas...
