    Mitch Chortkoff|Dec 8, 2016

Washington is one of four teams to make the NCAA football championship playoffs at season's end. USC will play Penn State in the Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 2. So, it has been a good year for the Pac-12 Conference even with UCLA, Stanford and Oregon having a disappointing season. A lot of conferences didn't do as well. The Oklahoma schools didn't qualify for the championship playoffs for instance, losing out to Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Washington. Both USC and Penn State had to overcome slow...

Funding will come from the 2016 Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax Funds. Could this be the reason or part of the r...

The building has been owned by his family since 1927 and has an endearing place in his heart. “The Centennial celebration is especially meaningful to my family and me because my grandparents, Louis and Molly Freeman, opened a grocery store in this location almost 100 years ago,” Freeman said. “This flag is one of two that will wave proudly on the roo...

  • School Board Terms Extended One Year

    Stephen Hadland|Dec 8, 2016

The new California State elections code requires local elections with poor voter turnouts to consolidate their election with the next statewide election. For the Culver City Unified School District, which had a meager turnout of 13.98% in the last election, the 2017 election will be cancelled and rescheduled with the statewide general election in November 2018. This will effectively extend the terms of board members Dr. Steven M. Levin, Katherine Paspalis, Esq. and Susanne Robins an additional...

  • The New Political Lexicon Explained

    Carole Bell|Dec 8, 2016

Words are just words. You think? While we may think we know what words mean, the stamina is in their associative power. (Think you know what stamina means? Please see below). Fuzzy, friendly words are popping up in politics. We see them and our eyes glaze; we think we understand, yet the landscape changes nano-momentarily. Here's a handy shortlist to test yourself. Post-truth It used to be "Truth justice and the American Way." Where is Superman when we need him? We're not in Kansas anymore. If...

  • Dear Editor

    Letters|Dec 8, 2016

The press release from Karen Bass on the death of Fidel Castro was not stupidity, rather simply ignorance. Take it from someone who was there until Jan.4, 1961 having lived the first two years of the Castro dictatorship. Thank God I was able to leave and not be subjected to the full 57 years of that criminal monster. No labor unions or political parties other than the Cuban Communist party! No private home ownership, businesses or even jobs not controlled by the government! Did Miss Bass not...

  • Dear Editor

    Letters|Dec 8, 2016

Dear Editor, The Vulgar Herd reared its ugly head, saw the river with the bully-gators, got a glimpse of the elite and them that's with em, standing off to the side, waving the Herd on to the river, shouting "all is well, all is well!" From out of nowhere an old Bull cried, "follow me, I know a better way!" Can life be good again for the Herd? Good enough is great with the Herd. It's a blue collar life they want to get too. Like grandma used to say "Lord only knows what's gonna happen next."...

UCLA will host UC Santa Barbara Wednesday night and will play Ohio State Saturday...

  • USC Men's Basketball Is Looking For Respect

    Steve Finley|Dec 8, 2016

What does the USC men's basketball team have to do to be recognized? The answer is, keep winning. The Trojans are 8-0 and they are coming off a 91-84 victory over BYU last Saturday at Staples Center, yet they are still on the outside looking in college basketball's top 25 rankings. What's really surprising is USC is producing after six of their top players either transferred or left for the NBA before the 2016-17 season started. To add insult to injury one of their best players, sophomore...

  • Trojans Take A Different Path To The Rose Bowl

    Steve Finley|Dec 8, 2016

If someone mentioned Rose Bowl around the USC football program back in September even the most loyal Trojan football fan would have said no way. After starting the season with a 1-3 record the young men of Troy reeled off eight consecutive victories in October and November to not only end the regular season as one of the top teams in the nation, they earned a spot in the Rose Bowl. Because New Year’ Day falls on a Sunday the game against Penn State and the parade will take place Monday, J...

  • Rams' Problems Remain In Loss To New England

    Fred Altieri|Dec 8, 2016

It's what everybody expected. The Los Angeles Rams became Tom Brady's 201st victim as the New England Patriot set an all-time record for most wins by a starting NFL quarterback. And clearly, the Rams' incompetent offense never threatened in a 26-10 loss on a cold and clear Sunday December 4th afternoon in Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts. On the other side of the coin L.A. rookie quarterback Jared Goff has yet to register a win in three starts as the Rams' offense sputtered to a new...
