It was a bloody lip to say the least. The Los Angeles Rams got a stiff dose of reality, a thorough and convincing 24-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The Rams had a four-game winning streak snapped. For the first game all season the Rams (7-3) were outcoached on both sides of the ball as the team suffered its first road loss. First-year Ram Head Coach Sean McVay acknowledged as much: "Didn't do enough to win the football game and it starts with me... It's a...
The Chip Kelly drama has reached a new chapter. Last weekend UCLA fired head football coach Jim Mora and news spread that they want Kelly, the former Oregon coach, to replace him. That information was publicized in the latest edition of the Culver City Observer. Kelly, who has been fired by two NFL teams, the Philadelphia Eagles nd San Francisco 49ers, was about to sign with Florida. But once news spread of UCLA’s interest Kelly met with Florida but didn’t commit. Then on Tuesday of this wee...
Under new head coach, Reggie Morris, the Culver High Boys Varsity Basketball team started its 2017-18 season with a convincing win in the first round of the Trevor Ariza Tip-Off Tournament held in Westchester, CA. The Centaurs' up-tempo offense and active, pressing defense was too much for the Lobos from Rancho Dominguez. The Centaurs came out energized and focused, as they took a 16-3 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, ultimately winning by 16 points, 78-62. Senior Tevian Jones le...

The victory was sweet. Among the date palm tree farms just south of Palm Springs the Culver City High football team forged a new path into the 2017 CIF Playoff semifinals with a resilient 45-27 victory over Coachella Valley High on Friday, November 17. Even the three-hour bus ride back home past midnight made it a road trip worth savoring. It took the 11th game at the Coliseum since the Rams return to Los Angeles for the fans to finally embrace their team with passion....

Sometimes a new head football coach in the NFL is so desperate to spark the offense and win that he will make a decision out of desperation. On Sunday, that is exactly what happened to Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who decided to bench an experienced starting quarterback in Tyrod Taylor and give rookie Nate Peterman his first start as a quarterback in the NFL. Peterman was a fifth round draft pick out of Pittsburgh in the 2017 NFL Draft. The decision to start the rookie ended badly,...
Many police departments throughout our country took part in celebrating National Police Week. In 2016 one hundred and thirty-five officers were killed in the line of duty according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. The Department of Homeland Security recently reported a sharp drop in the number of people trying to enter the U.S. from Mexico illegally. In April 2017 the number of arrests by the Border Patrol dropped 71 percent from the same time last year. The Census Bureau...

After UCLA fired head football coach Jim Mora following the Bruins’ 28-23 loss to USC Saturday night Jedd Fisch was named interim head coach. Fisch has been an assistant at five colleges and became UCLA’s offensive co-ordinator a year ago. However, speculation has been strong that USC has a major interest in Chip Kelly, who won a Rose Bowl game while compiling a 45-5 record at Oregon. Kelly then coached the San Francisco 49ers but didn’t have a lot of success and was replaced. There is speculation that Kelly was...

It’s a fitting location for the Wende Museum: the former National Guard Armory. The Armory, built in 1949 has fallout shelters in anticipation of a nuclear attack on the United States. Fortunately the bomb hardened shelters were never needed. The bunkers became obsolete in the 1950’s with the introduction of the more powerful Hydrogen bomb. The Wende Museum opened in its expanded new location last weekend displaying a Cold War archive of more than 100,000 Soviet and Eastern European artifacts in the former National Guard Armory in Culver Cit...

The biggest complaint I’ve heard from Laker fans in the last five years is the lack of improvement in the annual roster. Since the Lakers lost four straight first round playoff games to the San Antonio Spurs in 1912 and haven’t qualified since then I take these complaints seriously. Finally, owner Jeanie Buss replaced two front office leaders this season and brought in former Laker great Magic Johnson and respected player agent Rob Pelinka. Their job is to acquire players who upgrade the talent level. I’m not naïve enough to believe the Lakers...
The USC football team, fresh off a close 28-23 win over cross town rival UCLA last Saturday at the Coliseum, will play for the Pac-12 championship on December 1, at 5 p.m.at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Their opponent will be Washington State or Stanford. USC will have to play better than it did against UCLA if they expect to win the Pac-12 championship. Although the 10-2 Trojans won the game over the 5-6 Bruins it appears the Trojans are missing something that is not allowing them to be a...
