11 NFL Power Rankings - Week 7 1. Los Angeles Rams (7-0) - The Rams face Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes over the next four weeks. • No Good Reason to Pass Sales-Tax Increase

    Neil Rubenstein, Observer Columnist|Oct 18, 2018

Can I ask, “With all those millions the developers are spending on construction projects here in Culver City, why do we need to raise taxes?” You don’t need 20/20 vision to imagine City staff pushing gold-plated wheel barrels full of envelopes with big checks for sales-tax and property-tax revenue to the bank. For example, I’ve been spending a lot of hours in Ventura County these past few months, and I discovered that the Thousand Oaks sales tax is a mere 7.5 percent. If Culver City’s Measure C...

  • An evening with Eric Idle at the Robert Frost Auditorium

Catherine Hammonds, A Kid Scoop Media Mentor Correspondent|Oct 18, 2018

One of the first things I noticed as I approached the Robert Frost Auditorium was the sense of anticipation. It felt as though those of us were in the audience were getting ready to hear the band that defined our youth play. For some, it might have been the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, for others Jimi Hendrix, and still others Pearl Jam or Prince. In other words, there was a sense of shared experience, a feeling of youthful passion that is normally associated with the deeply personal experience of first discovering one of your favorite...

  • Limits on Flags at Home Raise Legal Issues

    David W. Myers, Managing Editor|Oct 18, 2018

DEAR DAVE: I live in Orange County but read your newspaper on the internet. I put a large American flag on my front-lawn earlier this month to mark Columbus Day but was soon issued a citation from our local Sherriff’s Department that ordered me to remove it because my flag “exceeds local limits.” Isn’t that a violation of my Constitutional Rights of “Freedom of Speech”? ANSWER: Maybe yes, but maybe no. You can probably fly your U.S flag, as I do, on your front lawn or on a metal holder that...

Thankfully, it was the Todd Gurley Show at Broncos Stadium at Mile High in Denver on a freezing Sunday afternoon, October 13 as the Rams outlasted a fourth quarter rally by the Broncos to w...
