I considered several topics for my column this week. Topics from different sports. Less than an hour into my thinking I had my answer. It wasn’t a difficult decision. In fact, it was ridiculously easy. The Dodgers getting Curtis Granderson for a very low price boggled my mind. Granderson, now 36, has hit 314 home runs in his 14 major league seasons and driven in 862 runs. He’s made more than $100 million in his 14 major league seasons and been an All-Star three times. Known as The Grandy Man...

Sometime in Mid-September Culver City is planning to put out an Oil and Gas Drilling Regulations Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Public to review and comment on, Citizen Activists have been proposing the City require a surety book of one billion dollars to deal with damages if the oil company has a blowout similar to Porter Ranch or if it causes an explosion like the San Bruno, California fire that destroyed 38 homes. At the current price of Culver City real estate if the City...

The Offense Our football team has really put time and effort in the weight room and on the football field, and weve got huge goals for the 17 Season!! stated football head coach Jahmal Wright. Culver City goes into the football season as the top-ranked team in Division 11 in the Southern Section polls. That is a lofty ranking but probably well deserved. Two years ago the C.I.F. realigned the Divisions, and Culver City was amazingly put down to a lower Division. The reason why the Centaurs were...
The Chargers came out on Sunday night for the second round of their "Fight for LA" and once again, they got knocked down, losing 13-7 to New Orleans before 21,000 fans at the Stub Hub Center in Carson. So what have we learned about the Chargers through the first two preseason games? Not much that we did not already know. The Chargers are using preseason to develop their depth. They are attempting to develop some of their young players. It is not going well to this point, but that should not...
The final three games of the regular season for the Sparks include a Sunday date with the other power team in the WNBA, the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx and the Sparks are the two best teams in the league so their game on Sunday; although it's still a regular season game has playoff implications. Tip off for the game is set for 4 p.m. at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. The Sparks (22-8) still have an outside chance of overtaking the 23-6 Lynx with three games remaining in the regular...
The NFL game pre-dress rehearsal offered only a glimpse but a revealing one, both visually and statistically. Progress continued as the Los Angeles Rams ran their 2017 preseason record to 2-0 with a 24-21 win over the Oakland Raiders on Saturday, August 19 at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. It's no coincidence that the Rams have a new spring in their step along with a rejuvenated attitude following last season's self-destructive tailspin. The obvious difference is the players buying in to...

Because of most districts limited athletic budgets most good athletic programs have to fund raise to help offset large costs to run their programs. Since Culver City does not have crowds of 4,000 and 5,000 for its football games the school has to rely on sponsors and major sponsors to help keep a competitive program going. Fortunately, we are blessed in Culver City to have a caring and involved community that likes to help out many of the athletic programs as well as other worthy programs. Recently, generous local REALTOR Michael Morabito of Th...
The real danger: Could Fascism replace our democracy? Are we heading to a second Civil War? Are we moving toward nuclear war? Who thought fascism and a Civil War redux would rise again? In the U.S.? At the same time? It's psychological warfare: gutting the EPA, health care, climate change (July 2017 was the hottest July in 137 years of record-keeping (NASA). Fascists oppose democracy and want totalitarianism; Mussolini and Hitler were heroes. It can't happen here. Right? Slippery slope....
