  • $8.8 Million Awarded In Police Shooting

    A jury has awarded $8.8 million to the family of Lejoy Grissom, who was fatally shot by a Culver City police officer on April 25, 2010 after robbing a nearby Radio Shack store on Sepulveda Blvd. The unanimous verdict was reached after jurors deliberated several hours. Grissom, 27, was shot after he was pulled over on Venice Blvd. A Culver City police officer spotted the car with a female driver and the male suspect driving erratically.     After a traffic stop Tuesday night in Marina del Rey by LAPD Pacific Division Officers police on Wednesday found numerous explosive devices at a suspect's apartment on the border of Culver City. Area businesses and residents were evacuated and streets were closed along Overland Avenue between Venice and Washington Boulevards.     Firefighters from the Culver City Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department along with water dropping helicopters made quick work of a blaze that threatened homes in Culver Crest and Ladera Heights Sunday Afternoon. About 100 firefighters were deployed to control the fire which was reportedly stated by a blown electrical transformer.
