3/11: The Santa Clarita division of the LA County Sheriff's Department reports that it has recovered 250 stolen catalytic converters, and arrested 19 suspects. The smog mediation devices, which scrub automobile exhaust, are frequently stolen by thieves who sell them to scrap dealers. The converters are said to be worth $250 to $750 each. SMPD reports that it arrested 2 suspects and recovered 3 stolen Catalytic Converters from a residence at 16th Street and Idaho Avenue. At 3:30 am on a Wednesday, “the suspect vehicle was located driving away from area and attempted to hide in a carport in the 1000 block of 14th street.
