Good news for those men and women who lives in Oklahoma. It is projected over the next 10 years; they will have a shortage of 7,000 skilled workers each year for the next decade according to an Oklahoma Works study. The Smithsonian reports out of the roughly 1000 malls currently open 9.3 percent of available space sits vacant. A slaughterhouse in Jaru, Rondonia can kill one cow every eight seconds. If you are driving in rural America around dawn and between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., you should be an al...

  • Council Priorities Wrong

    Letters|Jan 30, 2020

Dear Editor: Could someone on this City Council or City Administration get off their bikes and/or scooters, stop having focus groups on an armored car, and get to work on ramping speed for internet service for business and residents. In addition, include a definitive fix for historically sketchy-spotty cell phone service in Culver City. Richard P. Shoenbaum D.D.S Culver City...

The Centaurs lost 55-40 to Beverly Hills last Wednesday, January 22 and were just edged, 63-60, by Santa Monica two night later. "It was a tough week. In our league anybody can beat anybody," said head coach Roy Walker. "We have a split with SaMo now, so we just have to split with Beverly. We're...

I started writing sports when I was a student at UCLA during John Wooden days so my introduction into the sports writing world started with greatness but Kobe Bryant redefined greatness. Bryant, his 13 year old daughter Gianna and seven other passengers died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas last Sunday morning. They were on their way to a girls'...

  • The Eagle Can't Land

    Jan 30, 2020

By Rob Aigner Special to the Observer Soccer is one of the rare sports to allow games to end in a tie and that's exactly what the No. 7 ranked in CIF Division 4 Culver City High School Boys Varsity team earned last Friday against rival Santa Monica. That result gives the Centaurs, who are 9-3-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the Ocean league, a slim half game lead over the Eagles of El Segunda setting up an epic battle on January 31st at 3pm in an away match for Culver City. El Segundo is the defending...

  • Challenges Transparent California Facts

    Letters|Jan 30, 2020

Dear Editor: In a recent previous column (11.07-13. 2019) Neil Rubenstein claimed that the “Transparent California data base SAID” that there was a “nearly 900% increase in CalPERS [pension] benefits….” I have researched this claim closely. It is untrue. Mr. Rubenstein continues to get the facts wrong in his continuing animus about the mostly modest pensions of hard-working public employees. First, understand that Transparent California, which he cites as his source, is indeed a database,...

    Letters|Jan 30, 2020

The Editor’s article on homeless and CC budget/taxes bring up the core of the matter for CC. Where are the wide loud communications of the council to alert us BEFORE these matters are all done deals?
