I recently attended the Culver City Democratic Club meeting, to listen to John Chiang speak about his run for office of Governor of California. His speech was very intriguing, and gave some insights into who he is and what his platform stands for. His parents immigrated to the United States from Taiwan. They came here for the American dream that led them to a middle class neighborhood in Chicago. John was one of the first Asian-Americans on the block. He graduated from the University of South...

Apple's new space will be comprised of 128,000 square feet of retail and creative office space and will replace the former Surfas site. "Culver City is looking forward to Apple growing its operations in our community. The creative economy has played an important role in Culver City since the City's incorporation in 1917. The last time the community voted on a parcel tax it was back in 2009 when our state legislature thought it wise to drastically under-cut education funding to balance its own budget. That’s when the state forced our school board to turn to local property owners and ask them for a $96 parcel tax to help tide the district through the recession by offsetting at least some of the state cuts. Measure EE’s ballot description stated that it was … “To protect the quality of education in Culver City schools from deep state budget cuts by providi...
It’s official. March 29th is permanently recognized as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The statute was signed into law by President Trump. Please don’t be upset when I tell you the Council and staff will be in my opinion, working night and day to put a city tax on Netflix and probably 11 percent. Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas’s bill in Sacramento to prevent local government from putting a tax on Netflix until 2023 was stopped cold, so get out your check book. Oscar Meyer said it wi...
I watch a lot of games. I see players come and go but now we have one here who deserves a lot of credit – deserves to be appreciated and not traded again and again. “ His name is Lou Williams and he plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. At least I think he does but I haven’t checked yet this morning. So it’s possible he’s been traded just like he has been more times than a player of his caliber should be. Williams’ story interests me a lot because he’s played well for the Lakers and once scored 44...

League championships have become part the Culver City high school's girls basketball teams DNA. Five out of the last six years the Centaurs have won the Ocean league title and one of those years they added a CIF championship to their trophy case. Last year Lawndale won the league crown but this season the Centaurs look like the team to beat once again. They are 15-4 and 3-0 in the Ocean league and they appear to have the talent to recapture the title. "This is a resilient team'" said head coach...
The 2017 Los Angeles Charger season is going to be remembered for a lot of positive developments, including winning nine of their last 12 games. But it will be the missed opportunities that will haunt this team. It was those missed opportunities that will keep the Chargers at home for the playoffs. The Chargers started the season going 0-4, losing the opener by 24-21 to the Denver Broncos on a blocked field goal attempt, losing at home to the Miami Dolphins 19-17 on a missed field goal and...
